Principles of Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic Care from Our Santa Rosa Chiropractor

It's hard to imagine any part of the body more instrumental to health, comfort and physical function than the components of the spinal column that govern your balance, movement and nerve function. Chiropractic care is a proven conservative healing modality that can correct alignment errors and chronic pain problems that afflict every aspect of your well-being. You and your loved ones can receive this safe, effective form of care from our Santa Rosa Chiropractor at Dr. Kyle Chiropractic Center.

Principles of Chiropractic Care

The term "chiropractic" is Greek for "done by hand." Daniel David Palmer developed the principles of manual spinal correction after a revolutionary case in 1895, in which he noticed that correcting a patient's cervical spine had resolved the patient's hearing problem. Since that time, chiropractic medicine has greatly expanded its global reach, range of techniques and conditions treated -- and yet the same basic principles behind spinal adjustments continue to hold true.

To understand how chiropractic care works, it's important to understand what spinal imbalances can do to your well-being. Injuries, degenerative spinal conditions and chronic poor posture can cause a problem known as subluxation, a small but significant dislocation of the vertebral joints that articulate the spinal column. These issues can affect your stance and gait, straining muscles and causing back pain or neck pain. Misalignment can also impinge the spinal cord and its nerve roots, causing nerve signals throughout the body to misfire and producing referred pain and systemic health problems. By correcting the misalignment, chiropractic care can relieve all the symptoms created by that misalignment.

Spinal Adjustments for Pain Relief and Improved Function

Modern-day spinal adjustments can vary in style and technique, but they generally involve applying controlled amounts of high-velocity, low-amplitude force to a joint in need of correction. The traditional method used both chiropractors at our clinic is called Diversified Technique. Your Santa Rosa chiropractor may also employ the Thompson drop table technique. This technique uses a special segmented treatment table to adjust isolated portions of the spine; it can also point out apparent differences in leg length which may actually be due to spinal misalignment. The right set of spinal adjustments can provide a wide range of pain relief and healing benefits for conditions such as:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Sciatica or other extremity symptoms
  • Chronic soft tissue strain
  • Acute injuries
  • Chronic/degenerative joint pain conditions
  • Digestive, reproductive, immune or other systemic impairments related to poor nerve function
